Kids go through so much in school. Between growing up awkwardly in front of their peers to possibly being bullied, a kid can find growing up, hard to do. I remember back when I was a teen, I thought it would never get better. That maybe this was the life I was doomed to have, until I got out of school and realized that none of those bullies really mattered. If only I could have been part of a group like John, our main character.
I stayed in the same school system, my whole life. So I really couldn't imagine having to pack up and go to a new school, which is just what John had to do. Like every kid, he quickly got a bully. Luckily, unlike me, John was able to brush it off and move on with his day. Of course he tried to reason with the bully, which most people try and do and it never or rarely works.
John was actually really smart, he got good grades and was a scientist in his own right. Which is why it made sense, that he joined a group of other scientists. Having made friends, he was well on his way to helping them solve their mysteries. After a bit of no mysteries to solve, they finally get to solve the mystery of the swimming pool.
I have to say, I really love this book. It is written well and my kids are able to keep up and understand it. Yes, it is for teens, but is also written well enough for parents to enjoy it as well. I especially love the glossary section, which describes everything about the book that you need to know. I'm not going to lie, I had to check it more then a few times as I was reading.
The characters are built up well. You do get to know them, not too in depth, but just enough to feel like you know them and for you or your child to figure out which character is their favorite. The story flows pretty well and is easy to follow along. My family and I really enjoy this book!
