When I had a son I knew that he would want to play with cool boy toys. As he grew I tried to get him all of those toys. He always seemed to break anything that was remote controlled, until I met my husband. He loves remote controlled things and got my son to appreciate and take care of them. Now he has a bunch that he plays with all the time with his step dad.
This Rock Crawler boasts 3 motors that each do a different thing. Plus a 6 volt battery that charges the remote control truck. Inside the remote there is a 9 volt battery that keeps the Rock Crawler moving along down the road or sand.. or wherever you want to run it!
When I found out I was getting the Rock Crawler, I kept it from my son. I chose to have my husband play with this with me and review it, so that later on, we can surprise my son with it. I know he is going to love it when he gets it. My husband seems to enjoy it a bunch, even though it is more for kids then adults.
There are many types of remote controlled objects. Some are more for kids then they are for adults and others are strictly for adults. the adult ones do more and they go a lot faster then the others. We found that this is more of a toy then something a collector would use. But as a son and step dad team, I find this truck to be perfect.
With all toys, it was a brat to get out of the box with lots of clips and other things holding it hostage in there. My husband got it out finally and we found that we had to put some of the stickers back on. The look of the truck is really cool as well. Since it goes over things the suspension on it is nicely made.
We put this on the charger in our room while my husband was at work. The kids go to grandmas a ot during the day and sometimes at night. On this particular night, they were at grandmas. I charged this for 4 hours, it says 2 to 4 the first time, but I chose to do it the longest. I didn't have anyone asking me if it was done yet so I was happy. The directions also say to take it off in that amount of time or when it is hot, so you may want to watch it well.
I set up a little track for my husband to "race" this truck on in our apartment. It worked well to go over the shoes and such that I left out...obstacles I called them. It seems you can either go fast or slow with this thing, there isn't much of an in between to it. The remote is definitely sensitive.
After about 30-45 minutes it died on us. I am not sure if that is good or not for a toy but I know the adult ones last a lot longer then that per charge. For a kid though, with their short attention spans, I think that this would be a perfect amount of time for the product to be in use. Before it dies they will have probably lost all interest in it for the time being anyway.
As I said earlier, my husband did have a lot of fun with this, even though it was more a toy to him then a remote control truck. I enjoyed seeing him so happy and I even got out some of his other cars and trucks and charged them up. So when we finally did tell my son about this one, his step daddy had something to run right along with him.
