Undead- 10 Tales of Zombies

Over the years, zombies have become popular. Some say even more popular then vampires. I believe this is because there is more movies, tv shows and books about zombies then ever before. Also, because some people have a real fear of zombies coming back to life, then of seeing a real life vampire. We enjoy both here, but zombies take up a lot of our day. My husband is obsessed with Call of Duty Black Ops 2 Zombies. He plays it all the time with this online friends and they always joke about being prepared for the zombie apocalypse. With all the scary zombie stuff out there, it is nice to have something to put it in a better light. This book is that something.

As soon as I received the code for it, I started reading and I couldn't stop. I love how they are all written by different people. So many times in this day and age, authors want to have all the glory. So it is nice to see so many working together on one project.

I don't think I could pick just one as my favorite. Each one is good in different ways. Some are scary, some are sad and others take a bit of a comedic approach. As I have said before, the only thing I don't like about short stories, is the fact that I am always left wanting more. Wondering what happened after the story ends. But I guess in any book short or full and even in movies, you are left with that feeling most of the time. I could see each of these turned into a full book, tv show, or movie.

I know in reviews, you are suppose to explain what goes on, but I don't believe in spoilers. I will only give you vague descriptions of what goes on and hopefully you will be intrigued enough to want and go purchase the book for yourself. If you want to check it out on Amazon, you can find it here.

Immunity--I could imagine myself doing what the character did in Immunity. Not wanting to accept what I was going to turn into and turning on those close to me. I would probably be in denial as well, thinking that it wasn't going to happen to me.

Greywalker-- I found myself wondering the same as the guy in the story, why was the witch not asking for anything in return from him? It became apparent at the end. I must say I didn't see that ending coming. At first it seemed like it was going to be a typical love story..one of those I came back but I can't stay sort of thing but I believe the witch played coy about not helping him until she got him to agree to do it the way she wanted it. The clues were there though, the fact that she was cheating death so there had to be a reason for it. I also wonder if she knew that his knife would be confiscated. I am left wondering what happened later, did he return to her? did he use the knife on himself? how many more died. etc etc etc

Last Chance to See--This one reminded me of a sy-fy movie. I am sure everyone would want the chance to prolong life even if just for a day but, how much harder would it be to say good bye when it was time? I also don't know how I would feel if my husband had this done to me. Especially without even telling me that it was a possibility. If this was to happen to me, I think I would want people to care a bit more instead of turning on the tv and watching a sporting event. Like my wedding day, my last day better be all about me. lol

Furzby Holt--Could you imagine going into a village that wasn't really a village? I keep wondering if he read the papers wrong and was suppose to be somewhere other then where he ended up. It didn't sound like it was a place that anyone has been in awhile or else it would be known what is there. With this one, I am left wondering, if it really was his boss, if he left him back there, and if they both got out safe. I am pretty sure the main character did but I am not so certain about the boss.

Another Oldie But Goodie-- I have to say that this one confused me a bit. For awhile I wasn't sure how it fit in with the whole zombie theme. She hears the singing so much, that I thought she had dementia or some other mental problem since she is in a home. It's not really made clear until the end and she turns from grandma to crazy killer of the undead.  Don't get me wrong, I enjoy anyone who can get the job done with zombies but I really didn't see it coming. With the last line of the story, I can only assume that, that is why they didn't have a second anniversary and that she took care of him the first time as well. Very interesting story to say the least!

Zombie Mother In Law--This one I feel was less about the zombie mother in law and more about the grumpy son in law that complained about everything and didn't take care of himself. In the end his bad habits took care of him. I feel bad for Marlie though because she now has two to look after instead of just one and no one left for her to talk to and be around and loved by.

I'll Love Ya Forever, But---This is another one that left me confused and wondering what happened next. The husband shows up one day and the wife just lets him in even though he is dead. Not even wondering how he is up and around after death. She is more worried about her clean floor and shag rug to even consider what a zombie could do to her. Then the liquid is poured down her throat and the story is over. Was it a liquid to kill her..make her live forever..turn her into a zombie??? So many questions on this one. Prime example of one that I wish was longer so I could get the answers to my questions.

Decision Of The Council--I think that if you could bring back any movie character, that turned out to be a real person, then the person they brought back in this story would be the one. I could only imagine how awesome it would be to hear his stories and if they brought him back right, he could live forever and work for the F.B.I or some other big organization. This one, I feel should be a movie. You know they will make another one and this needs to be it. I might actually go watch it if it was this concept.

The Reason For Zombies-- If there was ever a tale of zombies, that would make me cry and feel bad for them, this is the one. You never see through the eyes of the zombie, it is always the eyes of the people trying to kill the zombies. You forget that zombies have feelings just like we do. To go searching for the grim reaper though, that is crazy even for a zombie. Even crazier is that he got through to him and instead of going for zombies he started going for vampires after the talk. Its sad to think though that the zombies work is done after that and he goes home to die alone. This one brought a tear to my eye.

Feeding Frenzy--To some people, fast food should only be eaten by zombies. A lot of people are called zombies who eat at those places anyway. I couldn't imagine the anger one would have for Wendy over what went down and what she knew and didn't tell them before taking them into that place. Just having a job in the fast food business would be a horror in it's own. I worked for one for a few months and many of those people seemed like mindless zombies to me. Granted a lot of them were nice people but man were not. They never did anything like the people in this story though thank goodness.

I know when I started that I said, I liked all the stories and I couldn't pick just one to be my favorite. After reading them all and going through them again for this review, I have to say that the last story, Feeding Frenzy is my favorite. I love the way it is written and how scared I could be for the characters in it, just by reading words. I am usually only scared physically by seeing it play out on a show or movie, but this one is so well written that you really feel the intensity of everything that is happening and the feeling of being lost and that everything is not going to be ok for the main character. This is something I would love to see as a movie and read as a whole book instead of just a short story.

All of these stories were written very well and even though they are written by different people, you can really feel the energy flow from story to story like they were meant to be in a book together. If you love zombie stories that aren't your typical zombie stories then these short stories are for you. It comes at a great price, I could see people paying even more to read these stories. These are ones you will remember and you will end up telling other people about them as well. I really enjoyed all the stories in this book and I think many of you would/will as well!
